"Dr. José L. Chávez is an Associate Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. He earned a bachelor of science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Universidade Federal da Paraiba in Brazil in 1992. In 1999 Dr. Chávez received a M.S. degree in rrigation Engineering from Utah State University. His Ph.D. degree was in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from Utah State University in 2005. Dr. Chávez's expertise includes estimating crop consumptive water use or evapotranspiration (ET) using multispectral emote sensing. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, the United States Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (USCID), and the Irrigation Association. His research interests include apping and modeling spatially distributed actual crop water use (ETa), crop water management, irrigation scheduling and precision irrigation. He collaborates with national researchers (e.g., USDA ARS) and international (e.g., Chile, Spain, Pakistan). "
